Dealing with Exposures
These are some of the things I do to deal with having a full life and not ending up sick over it. I have a job. We shop. I eat at restaurants.
But we don't accept that doing those things inevitably means ending up sick.
-
Shower and change clothes
-
I typically shower and change clothes shortly after coming home from work. If I have reason to believe I was exposed to something,
then I shower and change clothes immediately.
-
Carmex before, q-tip swabs after
-
If I am going someplace I know is a problem, I put carmex in my nose before I leave the house. When I get back, I swab out my nose with q-tips
soaked in either peroxide or diet tonic water or both. Both of these things give me some protection from things entering my system through my
nose. Doing the two together helps maximize the effect. If the exposure is really making me feel bad, I may go ahead and irrigate my sinuses.
-
Peroxide wipes
-
When I had a car, I kept peroxide wipes in it. It was a convenient means to wipe down my hands, face, hair (it will bleach your hair), car seats,
etc. if I was exposed to something while out running errands.
-
Keep shoes by the front door
-
I have found there is merit to this oriental practice. We keep all shoes by the front door and have a strict rule about not wearing them into
the house so that we don't track dirt and germs all over our home. We take shoes off immediately upon coming home. If we were exposed to
something, we may also pour peroxide over the shoes. Yes, this can be hard on the shoes. We tend to choose shoes in part based on how
well they stand up to such abuse and in part on how easy it is to get in and out of them. Fortunately, we live in the South where it
is warm, so we wear a lot of sandals.
-
Take extra herbs and supplements
-
If I am going to clean a mildewed window frame, I will take extra salt and coconut oil and some oregano extract before I get started. If I was
exposed to something really bad while out and about, I may take extra supplements, drink some diet tonic water (for the quinine) and maybe take
some olive leaf extract after I get home.
